Who are Awol One and Ecid? Are they shape-shifting heroes from hiphop's distant past sent back to the future? Are they animal poets trapped in a shell of b-boy bodies? Are they MTV reality show robots in training? Are they skeleton monsters? Are they made of flesh or circuits? No one is exactly sure what they are, they just are… While touring the Midwest years ago - Los Angeles MC/Artist Tony aka Awol One and Minneapolis MC/Producer Jason aka Ecid began building the foundation for a classic collaboration between two of indie-hiphop’s most unpredictable talents and original voices. Two years and many L.A. / Minneapolis flights later they have constructed a cohesive album built on label Fill In The Breaks trademark production and balanced by Awol and Ecid’s knack for witty sarcasm and melodic hooks. Like too many forced and ill planned collaborations before them, this new duo had no intentions of just running through the motions - they wanted to make an unapologetic, raw and focused record. From the first horn stab on the opening track “Root For The Villain”, to the epic posse-cut “Calm Down” and the sure-fire anthem “Clever Marketing”, one thing is for sure – Awol One and Ecid are… AVAILABLE JANUARY 12TH 2010
The self-titled debut album from enigmatic MC David Mars is built on the concept that giving up is not an option and you have no choice but to enjoy it. Mars raps with a relentless energy laced with addictive harmony’s and melodies that make wack MC’s across the globe blush. Entirely produced by ECID and his genre bending sonic arsenal. Red Beretta, which is a “concept” album based on the bizarre events that turn a modern day hero into a monster is a layered collection of intense narratives & dirty psychedelic grooves, built on Ecid’s ear for digging up dangerous, melodic, “what the hell is that?” samples & his passion for risky, thought provoking story telling. Underneath all the layers Red Beretta is a portrait of society's infatuation with Psychopath's & its need to humanize them & try to piece together why & how they become that way.
PKS, Jordan Miché & David Mars accompanied by Ecid is that split second in life when you realize your kind of pissed off & confused. We'd be lying if we said this project wasn't inspired by early 20's melt downs, we'd be lying if we said it wasn't inspired by crooked blood shot love, We'd be lying if we said it wasn't inspired by mind altering moments, We' be lying if we said it wasn't inspired. Built on Ecid's ever-changing mood's and Jordan Miche's & David Mars dedication to capturing the moment.
From the voice of Impulse, The quick hands of DJ Pseudonym & The beats of Ecid. "Scrap Metal" an album 2 years in the making is a raw, dark, grungy voyage into finding out who you are & more importantly who you are going to become....
ESGC is what happens when you take Slim Shady era Eminem, The Talking Heads, Ice Cube & Nirvana, smash them together, roll them in mud, blow them up with dynamite & attempt to piece them back together. Packed with "did he just..?" quotables & menacing beats that'll leave your original preconceptions about hiphop still intact, but briefly beat up & sub-sided. Originality breaths through the blood of Ecid's blue collar rap songs thicker than a shot of Milk & Gasoline.
